Experiment with Sonnet 64

(Using last words of each line of Shakespeare’s Sonnet 64 to create a new poem).

The playground lies defaced,

A symbol of a new age,

The children are all razed,

The adults scream with rage.

What is there to gain?

The litter lies on the shore,

The shopping trolley in the main

river, by the heathfood store.

What kind of nation state

Is this that continues in social decay?

The cows in the field will continue to ruminate,

The blessed will look away,

For those who can choose,

Will only cry and lose.

This is a sonnet I wrote some time ago but it fits well into today’s writing 201 poetry course for which the prompt is future and form is sonnet. Again I have left the devise of chiasmus behind.
