Croagh Patrick is a pilgrimage mountain in County Mayo, Ireland. The mountain, with its distinctive shape can be seen from many parts of the County. Before it became a place of Christian pilgrimage (after Saint Patrick, Ireland’s patron saint, spent 40 days and nights there), it was a mountain of pagan worship. People were thought to have gathered on the mountain to celebrate the beginning of the harvest.
This photograph was taken on my way home one day and is my contribution to this week’s Weekly Photo Challenge – On the way

Thank you – it’s not my way home everyday, though I can see the mountain from the top of our road on a clear day!

Well, it beats the M11 on a rainy day.. Such a distinctive shape – no wonder it has been of symbolic significance for so many people.
